I was recently reminded of an “oldie but goodie” from Franklin Covey’s book, Seven Habits of Highly Successful People. And it deserves a repeat every so often, so here goes:
One of his golden nuggets in that book is the idea that trust is built and maintained based on an emotional bank account. The Bank Account Theory suggest that when you do something positive that adds value to a relationship, you make a POSITIVE deposit. On the flip side, if you do something that is negative or damaging to the relationship, you receive a debit or WITHDRAWAL.
This is why it is so important to build a solid reputation as part of your strategy for a successful career. You need to constantly make DEPOSITS in every single relationship!
To your success! -TB
